PEGASYS will hold its annual VideoFest celebration — 'The Power of PEGASYS' — Saturday at the Cherokee Strip Conference Center.Tickets for the event, which includes a catered dinner, are $5 for PEGASYS members and $10 for guests, and may be purchased at the door.
VideoFest is PEGASYS’ own version of the Academy Awards, this year honoring those who produced programming from Aug. 1, 2003, through July 31, 2004. VideoFest 2004 is the 17th event since PEGASYS, Enid’s public-access television station, opened its doors in 1986.
This year, there were 20 entries from 11 community producers in four categories. First- and second-place winners will be announced in each category. All entries were judged by the staff at a public-access facility in Dallas.
Brian Young, also known as Dr. Fear of Arkham Arts Entertainment, will serve as this year’s master of ceremonies. Entertainment will be provided by local entertainers, 'Nutcracker Rockettes' from Dance Works of Enid; Nancy Carter, classical piano; Tania Warnock, vocals; Jim Nay, acoustical guitar; and 'Angel Song' of Calvary Baptist Church, vocals.
In the Education/Community Awareness Category nominees are: 'Reach a Friend: Interview with Mayor Irv Honigsberg,' Jerry Holt, producer; 'Red Fuzion,' Tammy Kennedy, producer; 'Fourth-Grade Spanish: Lesson 50' and 'Fifth-Grade Spanish: Lesson 39,' Roy Adams of Enid Public Schools, producer.
Recreation/Variety/Sports category entries are: 'Postcard Show # 99,' Hugh Hairs, producer; 'Reach A Friend: Hope Outreach/Brent Price,' Jerry Holt, producer; 'Liquid Wind,' Diana Kettle with Chris Maupin, producer; 'Pond Tour,' Phillip Shearer, producer.
In the Religious Category, the four entries are: 'Stomp & Praise,' June Butricks for Calvary Baptist Church, producer; 'Family Life Missions,' Jeffrey Worth, producer; 'Reach a Friend: Stan Jenkins Interview,' Jerry Holt, producer; and 'Reach a Friend: Mariachi Church Band,' Jerry Holt, producer.
The final category, and also the largest with eight entries, is Performing Arts. Entries submitted are: 'A Fling at the Springs,' Jim Nay, producer; 'Interview with Brittany Jo,' Jeffrey Worth, producer; 'Inspirations with Filese Hauser: Gentle Breezes,' Filese Hauser, producer; and five entries from 'The Mysterious Lab of Dr. Fear' series, produced by Brian Young for Arkham Arts Entertainment. These include 'Invasion of the Bubba Snatchers,' 'Plan Asinine from Space,' 'Election Night of the Living Dead,' 'Halloween Special #2,' and 'Back to the Fearture.'
In addition to the category winners, outstanding individuals will be recognized for their commitment to the success of PEGASYS during the past year. These awards are Editor of the Year, Director of the Year, Camera Operator of the Year and On-Air Personality of the Year.
The highlight of the evening will be the announcement of the coveted Producer of the Year and Volunteer of the Year awards. Also, individual and team recognition for the recent Power of PEGASYS awareness and membership campaign will be announced by campaign chairwoman Amber Graham Fitzgerald.
'VideoFest is an opportunity to celebrate the creative spirit, which is alive and well in Enid,' said Wendy Quarles, PEGASYS executive director. 'We invite guests to help us recognize those individuals who work tirelessly year round to provide local programming for all of Enid to enjoy. They add to the quality of life in our community, and this night is for them.'
